All ready to go! Saying goodbye to our home of 4 months. Excited to go back to Bratislava.
Packing up the last of Leya’s toys. She sits inside her now deflated bath tub that used to hold her blocks.
Our car is fully packed. Sylvie sits in the middle seat wedged between Leya and another large suitcase and two more carry-ons.
10pm. Checking into Lihue airport. Uh oh, there seems to be a problem. Our flight through Vancouver, Canada requires Sylvie to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). They won’t allow us to board until she applies online and waits for approval.
Leya waits patiently. Still no approval.
Still waiting for approval. The airport is empty as everyone is now boarding their planes.
Leya is very tired. Sylvie get’s approved for the ETA ten minutes too late. The check-in counter is closed and we’ll have to reschedule or flight for the next evening. We call a taxi and head back to the North Shore. Luckily we still have our apartment as there’s still two more days we’ve paid for.
Since we have an extra day I decided to make one more run to Cliff’s house to drop off a garbage can with the rest of our stuff. I bought the garbage can as a last ditch effort to hold water in-case we got hit by the hurricane a couple of months earlier.
Since we have no food, we decide to eat out at the food trucks in Hanalei for our (hopefully) last day on island.
Leya does what she loves to do most. Sit on random objects and carry something around with her. This time it’s a coconut water.
5 0’clock roles around and we do our nightly routine. We walk around Ka’iulani exploring. Leya is excited because she thinks we’re staying, and she is testing out a new backpack.
Off we go!
Here’s a nice bench on someone else’s porch.
Super happy to be staying in Hawaii and sitting in puddles!
We land in Los Angeles the following morning at 6:30am. We have to wait 5 hours for our next flight to Amsterdam so we decide to rest in one of the lounges.
Leya and Sylvie have breakfast while watching planes land.
Dad falls asleep while Leya watches an episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
Pre-boarded and ready for flight. Leya sleeps comfortably in her giant car seat that Dad lugs around.
Now with KLM airlines, Amsterdam airport. Final connection to Vienna.
Everyone is exhausted. Sylvie sleeps while Leya sleeps.
Descending over Vienna.
Our luggage didn’t arrive in Vienna, Sylvie tries to track them down.
Leya is happy to see old toys that she remembers. She pushes around the walker during our first night waking up at 1am.
Sunrise, first morning. All dressed up and ready to see what’s outside.
Yay! After almost 3 days it’s nature again!
Let’s try and sit on this log thing.
Morning sunlight peaks through the buildings.
Feels good to run again!
It’s cold but it feels good
First time walking the streets by herself in Bratislava. Leya, not Sylvie. Sylvie has walked them many times by herself.
Lookin’ cool Kid!
Another midnight wake-up. Leya enjoys a favorite one of her new/old toys while wearing a bathrobe.
Waiting for Mom to finishing making cream-of-wheat.
Leya finds her bows. Dad clips them all over her shirt.
December 1st. And snow!
Leya is bundled up and looks like the kid from A Christmas Story. She’s not too stoked about it.
Leya gets to ride in a sled while we take a walk during our visit with Richie, Julius, and Anda. She doesn’t quite know what to think about it at first.
